Queensland Health Workforce
Queensland needs nearly 6,000 additional doctors by 2032, and its current recruitment wins, while real, are not built to close a gap that size.
Queensland's targeted health workforce initiatives are delivering measurable results, including more than 1,320 clinicians recruited under the Workforce Attraction Incentive Scheme, but they remain isolated programs rather than a coordinated strategy. Regional allied health vacancy rates reach 50% and the rural medical workforce gap averages 21%, while the state will need nearly 6,000 additional doctors by 2032, a 32% shortfall if current trends continue. Closing that gap requires an integrated, lifecycle-wide strategy spanning attraction, recruitment, development and retention, tailored to each region rather than applied statewide.
