Murrindindi Health & Aged Care Innovation Plan: Project Launch

Ninety Mile Consulting is proud to partner with Murrindindi Shire Council, the Murrindindi Health Network, and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) to deliver the Murrindindi Health & Aged Care Innovation Plan—a landmark initiative set to transform health and aged care services across the region.

A Timely, Region-Wide Opportunity for Rural Health

In 2025, the Murrindindi region stands at a crossroads. Like many rural and regional areas across Australia, Murrindindi faces persistent health workforce shortages, growing service demand, and increasingly complex community health needs. At the same time, sweeping statewide reforms – including the shift toward Local Health Service Networks (LHSN) – means that now, more than ever, strategic regional planning is essential.

This project arrives at a pivotal moment. It offers an unprecedented opportunity for Murrindindi’s public hospitals, aged care providers, community organisations, and council to collaborate in designing integrated, sustainable solutions that will serve local communities for generations to come.

🤝 Collaboration at Its Core: Building a Regionally Owned Plan

What sets the Murrindindi Health & Aged Care Innovation plan apart is its deep commitment to genuine collaboration. Rather than a top-down plan, this project will be co-designed from the ground up – with local leaders, clinicians, service providers, and community members all playing an active role.

NMC brings extensive experience in rural health workforce planning and regional health reform. Our approach ensures that those delivering and relying on care are at the centre of every conversation. By facilitating open dialogue and structured workshops, we will identify shared priorities, address service gaps, and build practical, regionally owned strategies for improvement.

🌿 Why This Matters for Health and Aged Care in Murrindindi

The need for bold, coordinated action in regional health and aged care has never been clearer:

  • Growing and ageing population: Murrindindi’s demographic trends mean higher demand for healthcare and aged care services, with increasing complexity of care needs.
  • Workforce challenges: Recruiting, retaining, and developing skilled professionals in rural areas remains a critical issue, impacting service sustainability and local access to care.
  • Service gaps across dispersed communities: Geographic dispersion, limited transport, and infrastructure gaps make it harder for residents to access the care they need – especially in smaller and more isolated townships.
  • The opportunity for integrated health services: By uniting efforts across the region, we can break down silos, improve service efficiency, and deliver better health outcomes for all.

This strategy will:

  • Build a skilled, adaptable, and future-ready health and aged care workforce
  • Improve equity and access to services for all residents, including the most vulnerable
  • Strengthen partnerships and integration across the whole health and aged care system
  • Position Murrindindi as a leader in rural health innovation and reform
